The current church in the parish of Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures is a building of respectable age. Since its construction (1809-1816), it has undergone a major expansion and several renovations. The first chapel was built on the shore, so close to the water that spring floods forced it to be moved further back from the river, and thus further downstream. Soon outgrown, the chapel was replaced by a stone church. But the population, driven by the desire to settle their sons, looked further north for land to cultivate. The church followed its parishioners and climbed the cliff, ending up at the center of the territory. The present-day village grew up around it.
