Kapoah – Sentier Notre-Dame de Québec with Spiritours

When we talk about Kapoah, it is a contraction of Kapatakan, which means “path” in Innu, and OAHah, “path” in Wendat. These two Indigenous nations traveled through neighboring territories for millennia to hunt and fish. The Kapoah Trail, the Sentier Notre-Dame de Québec, offers a journey from La Malbaie in the Charlevoix region to the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Quebec City with its Holy Door.

Named Chemin du Roy at its inception, it linked Côte de Beaupré to Quebec City. Every building has its unique style. The houses, farms, schools, and mill reveal the spirit of the 17th and 18th centuries. This territory once belonged to the Beaupré seigneury, which granted or sold these agricultural lands to families to populate the coast, sometimes to ensure their survival. Free and not included lunch en route. Once at Moulin du Petit-Pré, the minibus will take you to your next inn. Free time. Dinner at a restaurant and overnight at Fleuve et Montagne inn (CITQ: 068132). 17km walk.

After the Quebec port and train station, you will reach the cathedral via Petit Champlain Street stairs or the funicular (optional and not included). Walk to Notre-Dame de Québec Basilica-Cathedral, the climax of your pilgrimage. Experience the Holy Door, illustrating the passage from what must be left behind to what you want to walk towards. Those who wish can also undertake a spiritual journey to prepare for crossing this Holy Door, the 7th in the world and unique in the Americas. It is open only during Holy Years and will be open throughout 2024 to celebrate the exceptional 350th anniversary of the Diocese of Quebec. Free time afterward to enjoy Quebec City. 14km walk.
