Presentation

Inaugurated in 1957, the Saint-Michel Basilica-Cathedral proudly overlooks the city of Sherbrooke. Its majestic arches and pointed arch windows, inspired by Gothic architecture, are the work of architect Louis-Napoléon Audet, who also designed several churches, including the Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré Basilica. It took him 40 years for his vision to fully come to life as we know it today. The Basilica-Cathedral is dedicated to the Archangel Saint Michael, who is notably the patron saint of police officers and soldiers. Visitors can admire numerous works of art, including the magnificent stained-glass windows in the nave and choir. On-site, one can also pray before the reliquary of Saint Marie-Léonie Paradis, visit the Museum of the Little Sisters of the Holy Family, or tour the archbishop’s private chapel by reservation.
